A Reconfigurable Software Defined Radio ReceiverThe idea of Software Defined Radio (SDR) envisions a reconfigurable digital solution to an otherwise rigid and analog world of radio communications. In particular, this receiver was designed to function within two modes of operation: FM Audio, and Digital Text streaming. The final design consists of a custom built RF stage (the orange microstrip boards), a high-speed ADC, and a DSP Board (the green boards). A block diagram can be seen in the poster presentation above (click to enlarge). A laptop hooked up to a mini-FM transmitter provides the custom digital text stream signal, while commercial FM stations are available in the ambient environment. This project was singled out of 100+ capstone design projects for “innovation, team-work, and execution,” and was awarded the ECE ALOHA Award for the 2008-2009 academic year.
